Korean Scientists manage to Desalinate Water in minutes

A South Korean team of scientists has developed a nanofiber membrane that can filter salt from salt water and convert it to fresh water in minutes. Even after a month of use, the membrane rejected 99.99 percent of the salt without significant energy expenditure.

Previous membrane solutions had to be replaced after just a few days because the membrane's filtering ability soon deteriorated.

It remains to be seen whether this innovative approach can be scaled up, but given the global shortage of drinking water and the ever-increasing demand, one has to hope so.
