A Heart-to-Heart with Amber Marshall

I just watched Amber Marshall’s new appearance on the Time Has Come podcast, and it honestly feels less like an interview and more like sitting down for a quiet chat with her.
Amber talks about something we don’t always think about: how weird it can be to live in two worlds at once. On one side, she’s Amy Fleming from Heartland, recognized by fans pretty much everywhere she goes. On the other, she’s at home in Alberta doing farm chores, looking after animals, and living a life that’s actually pretty simple.
She says it straight out – being yourself in the public eye isn’t always easy, but it’s the only way that makes sense to her. And you can tell she means it. There’s no “media voice,” no drama. Just Amber talking the way she always does: calm, honest, and very down-to-earth.
What I really liked was how she described choosing a different kind of life than most people expect from an actress. She’s not chasing Hollywood parties or living in some big city. She’s happiest with her hands in the dirt, feeding animals, fixing things, and being outside. Acting is a big part of her life, but it’s not the only thing that defines her.
She also talks about how her acting has changed over the years. The longer she plays Amy, the more connected she feels to the stories. And you can see that on screen, especially in the later seasons. But even while she’s talking about the show, she keeps coming back to the farm, the animals, and nature. That’s clearly where she recharges.

One of the most interesting parts is when she explains what it’s like to jump between filming and farm life. One day it’s 12 hours on set with cameras, scripts, and crew everywhere. The next day, it might be early mornings, bad weather, and sick animals that need her attention right away. There’s no “glam” version of that. It’s work in both places, just in very different ways.
I also liked how she talked about the weight of Heartland and how much it means to people. The show has been on for nearly twenty years, and fans have grown up with these characters. Big moments — like Ty’s death — still feel very real to a lot of viewers. Amber doesn’t brush that off. You can tell she understands that people bring their own stories and feelings to the show.
She never tries to sound perfect or important. She laughs, admits things are hard sometimes, and keeps coming back to the same idea: staying real is more important than playing a role off camera.
And I have to mention the visuals in this episode too. Kerry James did the camera and drone work, and it really shows. The shots of Amber’s place, the land, the sky — it all fits with what she’s talking about. You’re not just hearing her describe that life, you’re actually seeing it while she speaks.
If you love Amber, Amy, or just the whole Heartland world, this podcast is definitely worth watching. It’s calm, honest, and very “her” — no fake TV shine, just a woman who loves her work, her animals, and the life she’s built.

So where is the video that Kerry James took, all I get is Graham. He left! He was always leaving. I am a big Caleb fan but at least Nathan is running off to save Gobbie bears or a road trip with Blair, or save wolves etc. He was never cowboy enough for Amy. Give me Caleb or Nathan any day.
