Are Angie and Mark Harmon related? The truth revealed
Why Everyone Thinks They're Family
NCIS ran for 20 seasons with Mark Harmon as the lead. Rizzoli & Isles had seven seasons with Angie Harmon front and center. Both shows owned cable ratings. Both names end up on the same Google search.

People assume they're related. They're not.
Angie Harmon's Actual Background
Angie grew up in Texas. Her parents—Daphne Debbe and Lawrence Paul Harmon—had zero Hollywood connections. At 15, she won Seventeen magazine's modeling contest and spent the '90s walking for Versace and Calvin Klein. Then she switched to acting. Baywatch Nights led to Law & Order, where she played ADA Abbie Carmichael for four years before landing Detective Jane Rizzoli.
Her personal life made darker headlines in April 2024. An Instacart driver allegedly shot and killed her dog at her North Carolina home. She's been loud about the incident and the fact that no charges were filed.
Mark Harmon's Hollywood Lineage
Mark's father was Tom Harmon—Heisman Trophy winner, sportscaster, war hero. His mother, Elyse Knox, was an actress and model who worked through the 1940s. His sister Kristin Nelson was married to Ricky Nelson.
He married Mork & Mindy star Pam Dawber in 1987. They're still together. Their son Sean plays young Gibbs in NCIS flashbacks—the same character Mark played for two decades.

Mark didn't break into Hollywood. He was born in it.
The Name Is Just a Coincidence
Harmon ranks as the 1,491st most common surname in the United States. About 23,000 people have it.
Angie's family is from Texas. Mark's is from California. Different coasts, different family trees. They've never worked together, never addressed the confusion publicly. They just both happened to play detectives on hit TV shows with the same last name.
