Donnie Wahlberg’s autistic stepson, Evan Asher, stuns fans with his emotional song, proving that love, support, and resilience can turn dreams into reality. Wahlberg, who feels blessed with his boy, helped bring Evan’s vision to life alongside Elijah Wahlberg—earning the family praise winning hearts across the internet.

Donnie Wahlberg, once known for his rebel image as a founding member of New Kids on the Block, has long traded the spotlight of teen stardom for something far more meaningful: fatherhood. With two biological sons from his previous marriage to Kimberly Fey and one stepson, Evan Asher — who has autism — Wahlberg is a devoted father figure to three young men he fiercely protects and loves.

Since marrying TV personality and autism advocate Jenny McCarthy in 2014, Wahlberg has embraced Evan as his own, and their bond has grown into something truly extraordinary.

Recently, Evan made headlines with the release of his own debut song, “It Doesn’t Matter,” uploaded to YouTube along with an official music video. The track — written by Evan himself — was a family affair. Music composition was a collaboration between Evan, his stepbrother Elijah Wahlberg (lead singer of the indie band Pink Laces), and Donnie Wahlberg, who also executive produced the track.

The response was swift and heartfelt. Fans praised Evan’s vocals and lyrics as “inspiring,” “a total masterpiece,” and “beyond touching.” One fan wrote, “I had this on repeat all night. What a voice, what a soul.”

Another comment deeply moved Wahlberg's family:

“Evan was the first person I ever heard of with autism. Now I’m raising my own autistic daughter, and he gives me hope she can succeed too.”

A Family That Lifts Each Other Up

What made this release especially powerful was how it came to be. Evan had initially written the song with no plans to perform it himself. But with encouragement from Elijah and Donnie, he stepped into the booth — and into his power.

Elijah supported him throughout the process, helping him find his voice. When it came time to produce the video, the brothers turned to their father, a seasoned director, whose belief and guidance helped bring their creative vision to life.

Donnie reflected on the experience, saying:

"It was a joy to help Evan make his song a reality. He is such a sincere young man, with the heart of a saint and the soul of an artist."

He emphasized that Evan earned every bit of success through hard work — not by having anything handed to him. Wahlberg added:

“Even if music isn’t Evan’s forever path, he’s already shown he can do anything he sets his mind to.”

When Evan First Called Wahlberg “Dad”

The emotional foundation of their relationship runs deep — dating back to when Donnie first proposed to Jenny McCarthy. At the time, Evan had never called him “dad.”

That changed during the surprise proposal. As McCarthy recounted, Evan entered the room with cards that read “Will You Marry…” followed by Donnie walking in with a shirt that said “Me?” Overcome with joy, she said yes — and then Evan declared:

“I have another dad!”

The room erupted in tears. It was a defining moment when they officially became a family. Evan would later walk his mother down the aisle on her wedding day — a role she says made the ceremony even more meaningful.

A Unique Bond Beyond Biology

Despite having a strong connection with his biological sons, Donnie Wahlberg admits his relationship with Evan is uniquely special.

“My sons are intellectual — we have great talks. But Evan is pure heart. He’s affectionate and expressive. He makes sure you know he loves you.”

He described how McCarthy has more cerebral conversations with his sons, while he and Evan bond through activities, sports, and playful affection. Wahlberg cherishes that balance in their blended family:

“We each connect with each other’s kids in ways we never expected — and that’s a gift.”

In 2015, Wahlberg posted on Twitter:

“I was blessed with two amazing sons. Then God blessed me again with a third when I married my wife.”

A Family That Inspires

Today, Wahlberg and McCarthy are a shining example of how blended families can thrive through patience, empathy, and open-hearted love. Their unwavering support for Evan — both as a person and now as an artist — sends a powerful message about acceptance, encouragement, and never underestimating someone’s potential.

As Evan’s music touches more hearts, his story continues to inspire not only fans of Wahlberg or McCarthy but parents, children, and families everywhere navigating life on the spectrum — with hope, pride, and joy.
