Amber Marshall on Heartland’s Success: The ‘Breath of Fresh Air’ Fans Still Crave

When TV Feels Too Heavy, We Go Home to Heartland
Scrolling through TV can feel exhausting—crime dramas, shocking twists, edge-of-your-seat tension. Some nights, you just want something calmer. Something that feels like a deep breath after a long day.
For so many fans, that place is Heartland. It’s not just a show—it’s a comfort zone. And Amber Marshall (our Amy Fleming!) recently shared why it connects so deeply.
“It’s Just Comfortable”
Amber said what fans have been feeling for years:
“There’s a lot of scripted television shows out there that keep you on the edge of your seat, but sometimes in a way that gives you anxiety… The thing I love about Heartland, and that so many people have shared with me over the years, is that it’s just comfortable… you don’t feel that anxiety.”
That’s the difference. Heartland doesn’t shy away from life’s challenges—but it handles them with warmth, not chaos. You finish an episode feeling lighter, not drained.

“It Makes Me Feel Good”
Amber said fans often tell her the same thing:
“It makes me feel good, and it makes me feel inspired and positive and that I can really get through anything. And I think that’s really what the show is about.”
If you’ve ever smiled through tears after an Amy & Ty moment, you know exactly what she means. Heartland is hope on-screen—family, animals, love, and those small moments that remind us what matters.
A Landscape That Feels Like Home
Let’s be honest: the landscape is practically a character itself. Those rolling foothills, warm skies, and ranch life feel like home even if you’ve never set foot there. Amber feels it too
“The whole idea of Heartland is this nice, family contentment, and it’s found right here.”
That backdrop is part of why watching feels like stepping into another life—one where there’s room to breathe.
Amber’s Real-Life Heartland
Maybe that’s why her performance feels so authentic—Amber actually lives that life.
She originally planned to be a veterinarian, not an actress. But by Season 2, she’d moved to Alberta full-time:
“I rented an acreage, and it just felt right. I had some chickens and a dog and… it just felt like home right away.”
Today, she and her husband Shawn live on their own ranch, surrounded by animals, and even got married there in 2013. It’s not just Amy Fleming finding home—it’s Amber Marshall herself.
Season 18 Is Coming!

The best part? Heartland isn’t slowing down. Season 18 was renewed in May 2024, with filming already underway.
- Canadian fans: likely premiere this fall
- U.S. fans: UP Faith & Family expected to stream it by spring 2025
So, why do we keep coming back? Because it’s real. Because it feels good. And as Amber says, “it just makes you feel good.”
