Rizzoli & Isles Cast: Where are they now? Angie Harmon, Sasha Alexander & more

Catching Up with Angie Harmon, Sasha Alexander, and the Rest of the Team

Rizzoli & Isles, a TNT crime drama that debuted in 2010, took the detective genre by storm. The show centered on two friends, Detective Jane Rizzoli (Angie Harmon) and medical examiner Dr. Maura Isles (Sasha Alexander), who teamed up to solve crimes in Boston.

The series, based on Tess Gerritsen's novels, ran for seven seasons, ending in 2016. Fans are still hoping for a reboot, thanks in large part to the undeniable connection between the two lead characters.

"There's a real ease to it," Sasha Alexander said about her on-screen chemistry with Angie Harmon in a 2012 interview with Advocate magazine. "It just clicked right from the start."

Although Angie and Sasha were quite different in real life, they convincingly portrayed longtime friends and colleagues on screen. Jane, a tough detective with a big family, balanced out Maura, the brilliant and kind medical examiner.

"Angie and I are very different people," Alexander, formerly of NCIS, explained. "We come from different backgrounds. But the chemistry just works… I think we represent different types of women and that's something to celebrate."

This on-screen bond extended to the rest of the cast, which included several of Jane's family members: her police officer brothers Frankie Rizzoli Jr. (Jordan Bridges) and Tommy Rizzoli (Colin Egglesfield), and their mother Angela (Lorraine Bracco).

Jane's colleagues included detectives Vince Korsak (Bruce McGill) and Barry Frost (Lee Thompson Young), and lab technician Nina Holiday (Idara Victor).

A dark cloud fell over the Rizzoli & Isles family in August 2013 when Lee Thompson Young, at the age of 29, died by suicide. The cast and crew were deeply affected by his loss, and honored him in the season 5 premiere episode.

"Our main goal was to make sure we were paying tribute to Lee and the character of Barry Frost," showrunner Jan Nash told Slate magazine in 2014. "We wanted anyone who loved Lee to feel that we were honoring his memory."
